Hard coatings

The BLÖSCH coating center has state-of-the-art PLATIT and a tandem pulsed plasma nitriding system. In addition, we have several in-house cleaning processes adapted to the specific substrate materials.

Machining

Machining is a collective term for the group of manufacturing processes used to give workpieces a certain geometric shape by mechanically removing chips of excess material from blanks.

The key machining processes with geometrically defined cutting edges are turning, drilling, milling and thread cutting. According to DIN 8580, machining is one of the priority groups in the industrial sector.

The material to be machined, the selected substrate and the various types of wear are the variables decisive for the correct selection of the coating system.

Punching, forming and fine blanking

Punching involves manufacturing parts from various materials using a press and a cutting tool. Tools comprise punches, dies and other highly stressed parts.

The key manufacturing processes in forming technology are impact extrusion, extrusion, deep-drawing, rolling, open-die forging, drop forging, and bending. These are processes in which blanks made of plastic materials are specifically rendered into different shapes.

The material to be machined, the machining strategy and the selected tool material determine how the right kind of coating system is chosen in combination with possible heat treatments.

Mold-making and plastic

In plastic mold making, the respective material is liquefied and injected into a mold under pressure. In the tool, the material returns to a solid state through cooling or a cross-linking reaction and is removed as a finished part once the tool has been opened. The cavity of the tool determines the shape and surface structure of the finished part. When die-casting, casting alloys with a low melting point, high pressure and a very high die filling speed are pressed into a die casting mold where they then solidify. The melt, the tool geometry and the selected tool material are what dictate are decisive for the correct selection of the coating system in combination with possible heat treatments.
